Tom Brady, who you may know from those ill-thought-out crypto commercials was roasted this weekend in a three-hour Netflix live special. In proper roast fashion, there were insults, jokes about Tom's ex-wife's new boyfriend, Deflategate and multiple jokes about how Kevin Hart is short. But something felt off, it felt like people were trying a bit too hard.

The usual suspects were all in attendance; Jeff Ross, Kevin Hart, and Nicky Glazer (I assume Hollywood keeps them in a box until they need to be let out). Kim Kardashian was also in attendance and received loud boos when she took the mic and received a jab from Tom about her ex-husband (lots of divorced energy), though she did take it on the chin (no pun intended).

But something about the whole event just felt off. It could have been the try-hard antics, leaning on nostalgic characters (Ron Burgundy), or the packing of every celebrity in the greater LA area into a single auditorium, it all felt a bit too forced.

The stand-out set came from Tony Hinchcliffe who runs a comedy variety show in Austin, Texas (Kill Tony), who gave the strongest two-minute set of anyone on stage and who, in my opinion, was born for the roast stage.

But the rest of the event was fluffed out with Bill Belichick and Dana White, people who shouldn't be given a mic at a roast, stumbling through jokes about their bosses getting handjobs from masseuses and in Dana's case, calling out trans people because his name sounds like a girls name.

Are you not entertained? Is this not the edgy comedy you came to see?

The funniest joke of the night wasn't a joke someone told on stage but was the context in which it was told. Last week Jerry Seinfeld said "wokeness has ruined comedy," and Tony Hinchcliffe followed that up by making a cotton-picking joke about Kevin Hart, live on Netflix.
