Children being afraid of their closets is a tale as old as time. It’s such a classic that Pixar used the concept as the basis for one of its best movies back in 2001.

As adults, we know monsters aren’t real, but it’s hard to convince children of the same, especially when it turns out they weren’t hearing things and there was actually something living in the walls. It’s doubly true if that something turns out to be 50,000 bees.

TikToker Ashley posted a video of her toddler’s room with the caption, “When your daughter has been hearing ‘monsters’ in the walls,” accompanying an infrared shot showing something fairly large behind the wall. The next shot is a video of the reveal: a hive of bees had made a home in the little girl’s bedroom walls and, having been set free by someone tearing the wall open, were now swarming all over the place.

Surely this won’t result in any further nightmares for the poor child!

Correctly identifying what the people want, Ashley has been posting a steady stream of follow-up videos, including one showing a beekeeper removing 20,000 of the bees along with over 100 pounds of honeycomb. Fortunately, the beekeeper found the queen, meaning they’ll be able to rehome the hive somewhere that isn’t a little girls’ bedroom.

Unfortunately, though, that wasn’t the end of the saga. Many bees remained, including dead ones (which Ashley points out can still sting), and their insurer won’t cover any of the damage caused by the bees because it “doesn’t have anything to do with the house.” There’s also honey all over the girl’s room, and Ashley has been stung several times, forcing her to resort to wearing protective gear whenever she enters the room just in case.

Overall, the bees caused around $20,000 in damage, and despite people suggesting it, Ashley has declined to start a GoFundMe because she feels there are other people who need the money more than her family does. It’s been two weeks since the bees were discovered, and the family is still cleaning the bedroom and trying to remove all of the bees, both alive and dead, as well as remnants like honey, as well as trying to repair the wall.

I’m all for saving the bees, but squatting in a little girl’s bedroom and causing thousands of dollars of damage isn’t cool. So buzz off motherfuckers.
