It's like if you were in the center of a huge toilet paper roll, as you looked out the rings would get bigger and bigger.The ones very close to you would be almost indistinguishable from each other in size. As you looked further and further out the calculation is easier to distinguish. Then you add onto that the infinite vastness of space and you can imagine how massive those rings can become.
