Flashback in the Playground.

This morning was rather kind to me, the air was dry and warm and so my aches and pains didn't bother me much. I knew it was going to be a great day because I was taking my children to the park. I served up their favorite Double Crackle Fruit cereal, I had my usual bowl of Muesli. I dressed them up for the weather and it was off to the park we went.

As the children played they laughed and giggled like children do. Every time one ran by me they would smile and wave. They begged me to go down the slide but I was too old and would look silly. Other children gathered and an uncontrollable game of tag started up. The usual disagreements about who was "it" and lets play something else. I just stared and was consumed by their innocence.

The weather was taking a turn for the worse. The two minute warning was given as the sky turned black. I looked to the heavens to gauge what time we might have left. As I lowered my head to see the children, they were gone. The once energetic park became an empty playground.

In front of me the world had only two dimensions. It was if someone started to peel away a label off a box, but this time it was my entire vision that was being peeled away. The once brightly painted see saw slowly peeled away to become a rusty see saw. I nervously searched for clues to where the children had gone, but there were no footprints in the sand.

A warm hand placed upon my shoulder and a voice said, " lets go Mom it's time to see the girls". "Oh thank God you know where they are! I was so worried". We went back home, opened the door and there in the front hall were the girl's clothes. I guess they must have run ahead to change. Those girls must be hungry they never finished their breakfast, in fact I don't think they had a bite.

"Grab your coat Mom it is time to go see the twins", the voice said, and so I did. We drove up a hill into a lovely park. The place was filled with willow trees, a large pond with a fountain and every few feet flowers were placed evenly apart.

"Can you see them now Mom?". I gazed ahead and yes I could see the girls running and playing. I was so relieved, I thought I had lost them forever. As I approached them I saw a sign. What was the name of this lovely park, I felt as though I was here before.

I read out loud, "Rest in Peace Sally and Jenny, you died too young". I stepped back in shock, almost lost my balance. The warm hand steadied me, and I said out loud, "what kind of God damn name is that for a park?"
