Great Self Defense Tactics!

Self defense is an important tool in your life. Nothing gives you more confidence than knowing you can defend yourself against would be attackers. So I've gathered here some quick tips from some of the top security officials across the land.

From detective Sharon Houlette an expert for the Department of Public Safety at the University of Arkansas has this advice for a would be victim,"A glance or a nod will help you show anyone who might think that you are not paying attention, and you are aware of their presence". A great idea if you can muster up some potent laser beam skills, but I am so far not aware of such abilities.

How about the, "Assume the Victim's Position" from the University of Colorado Springs?
1.Be realistic about your ability to protect yourself.  2.Your instinct may be to scream, go ahead! It may startle your attacker and give you an opportunity to run away.  3.Kick off your shoes if you have time and can't run in them.  4.Don't take time to look back; just get away.  5.If your life is in danger, passive resistance may be your best defense.  6.Tell your attacker that you have a disease or are menstruating.  7.Vomiting or urinating may also convince the attacker to leave you alone.  8.Yelling, hitting or biting may give you a chance to escape, do it!  9.Understand that some actions on your part might lead to more harm.  10.Remember, every emergency situation is different. Only you can decide which action is most appropriate.

Joe Biden has some great advice for his wife Jill Biden.
Pay attention ladies this might save you from would be attackers or at least keep away those pesky neighbors who think you've gone mad.
In a Facebook "chat", the vice president said that he had advised his wife, Jill, to fire a shotgun in the air from their Delaware home's porch if she was concerned for her safety."I said, 'Jill, if there's ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here, walk out and put that double-barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house,'" Biden said. "You don't need an AR-15, it's harder to aim," he added, "it's harder to use, and in fact you don't need 30 rounds to protect yourself. Buy a shotgun! Buy a shotgun!"

Of course, if you are looking for the very best advice that tax dollars can summon up, look no further than The Department of Homeland Security.

WASHINGTON - Is your workplace getting shot up by a crazed gunman?

No problem - just grab a pair of scissors and fight back!

They don't state what type or brand is the most effective, but I think I'll be using my mother's old sewing shears. I do a lot of work outside, so just in case a pitchfork will now be part of my safety kit.
