How to Avoid Outside.

We've finally done it!   We as a species are now able to stay inside 100 percent of the time, never having to go outside for even a second if you do not choose to.    Although it is expensive, it can be done.

To accomplish this lifestyle you will need the following things;

A house with an attached garage.
A car with a hard top.
A computer with the internet.
A Phone.
A job in a building that has underground or indoor parking.

Since most new homes have attached garages, you do not even have to spend 5 seconds outside to get from your house to your vehicle.
If you have a job in a building with indoor parking, you do not need to leave your vehicle before you are sheltered from the elements.

With technology such as the phone, and the internet,  you can purchase anything from the comfort of your own home.  Anything at all... there isn't a damn thing you cannot buy over the phone or internet... and I challenge everyone who reads this to find one service, material object or resource that you cannot purchase using one of these two methods.

From the comfort of your home, you can communicate with people, pay bills, find entertainment, gain an education, and even efficiently start and manage your own company.   Hell, they have diapers for dogs now, so you don't even have to take Rover outside to do his business anymore.

Of course not everyone can do this... only rich people who can afford to pay people to go outside for them can successfully pull this off... but it is very much possible.    And people do, do it.
I've watched a few rather disturbing documentaries about morbidly obese people who are literally too fat to get out of bed.  Literally.   They actually hire people and guilt their families and friends to do everything from deliver food and necessities,  to sponge bathe them.   Everything they need is brought to their bed side.

It's not the best quality of life you can achieve, but the fact is, you can achieve it if you so desire.  And it's getting easier and easier to do by the day.

But why?  Why is there such a demand for these amenities?

For example, on the discovery channel yesterday they had a clip that described a new technology that allows you use a computer without having to use your hands.   Instead of using a mouse, all you have to do to click is look at what you want to click.   To type, all you have to do is speak.
At first, I thought this was a good idea, because it allows amputees and other physically disabled people to use a computer as efficiently as someone with full use of their hands.   That's a great thing.  But that's not exactly what they are trying to accomplish, especially since they mentioned that they were planning on making this technology available to everyone, and are working towards putting this technology in mobile devices.

What's next? Telekinesis?  Where all you have to do is think about a website for it to appear before your eyes?   Jesus fucking Christ, what the fuck has this world come to?!?

Why? Are we too busy and need to find the quickest and easiest way to do everything? Or are we just lazy?    I would like to think that we are all trying to accomplish more in the 24 hours a day gives us... but really I doubt it.  I really do think that most people will opt for the easy way over the hard.  Especially now.   We live in a time where you can get whatever you want... there is always a way, and you never have to take no for an answer.   There will always be that bank that will give you that loan, and there will always be debt recovery programs for people who can't pay it all back.   No matter what you want, there is ALWAYS be a way to get it.   We are a culture without limits, and I truly believe that it is fucking with our expectations as a society.

Of course there is more good to this than bad.  Having options is a good thing.  But what happens if we become dependent on these luxuries, and forget how to be self-sufficient?  For example GPS devices.   If you have a device that tells you when and where to turn, there is no need to learn how to read a map.  But what happens if your GPS stops working while you're traveling in an unfamiliar area?  You're fucked... while there are ways to navigate without technology.... We used to do it.  We used to be able to look up at the sun, and know what time it was.   We used to know what kind of species of birds to follow in order to find water.   Hell, it wasn't too long ago that we ALL knew how to grow, and harvest our own food.   But now we don't have to know how to raise a cow to put milk and steaks on the table.... hell we don't even need to know how to hammer a nail in order to have a table to eat off of.

There's a fine line between functioning as a society where we use our best traits and knowledge to trade goods and services with other people who have different skills,  and becoming completely dependent on the luxuries we have, while being willfully ignorant to how any of it is made possible.   Yes, we can't all do everything for ourselves, and we will have to enlist in the help of others.   And yes, much of our technological advancements and scientific discoveries are extremely important... like medications.

But, we can't all just stay inside.
