I Found a Really Cool Persian Muslim.

Still can't find a cool Arab Muslim, I found oodles of American Arabs who were pretty cool. Also learned that only twenty four percent of people with Arab decent living in America are Muslims. Doug Flutie is of Arabic decent.

The cool Persian Muslim I found was uber cool but unfortunately died over a thousand years ago.

The legendary Ibn Sina is a giant among giants. He is another Muslim Physician from the Medieval Islamic civilization that has left major footprints on medicine today. In fact, Ibn Sina is often referred to as the doctor of doctors. Like many geniuses of the old days, Ibn Sina was not only a skilled physician but he was also a philosopher, astronomer, mathematician and many other things.

Ibn Sina was born in 980 C.E. in central Asia, in the south of Russia, in a small village called Afshana. Ibn Sina, also known to the Western world as Avicenna, was brilliant even at a very young age. Already at 10 years of age, he had mastered the Arabic language and completely memorized the Quran, which is quite an amazing endeavor. Ibn Sina studied religion, philosophy, law, Natural sciences, logic, math and physics. At the age of 16 he directed his interest to medicine, which quoting his own words he found not difficult. At the age of 18, Ibn Sina was already gaining a reputation as a great physician and he cured the Samannid Prince of a disease where other physicians had failed. To show his gratitude, the Prince allowed Ibn Sina access to the Royal Library, where he studied intensively and a few years later Ibn Sina started publishing his own books.

One of Ibn Sinas most famous writings was the book The Canon of Medicine or Qanun fi al Tibb. The Canon is a medical Encyclopedia of more than a million words. The Canon summarizes the existing medical knowledge and adds new discoveries too. It is divided into many sections and topics and discusses general medicine, it talks about hundreds of drugs and medicinal plants, it talks about the different organs of the body in detail, diseases and the spread of them.

Ibn Sina discovered the contagious nature of some diseases, described bacterial organisms, discovered and discussed the spread of diseases by mediums such as water and soil and talked about bacteria that can be left by a sick person. Ibn Sina was the one who introduced the idea of quarantine to limit the spread of diseases.

He described meningitis and discussed Tumors and Cancer. He also talked about the causes of ulcers, and facial paralysis.

The anatomical description of the body by Ibn Sina in his book the Canon is still used today. He gave for the first time a detailed description of the eye, it different component and their functions.

His books were translated into Latin and became the standard medical textbooks to be used in schools all over Europe for many, many years

The above is but some of Ibn Sinas Medical discoveries and writings, Ibn Sina was a genius and he is worldwide considered the Father of Modern Medicine.
