just smile and nod

lol ok i post this as an after thought to the vegetarian blog i just submitted. a few years back, i guess i musta been 17...anyway i was workin at white castle over the summer for some extra cash. so one day, a family comes in, its a mom and dad probably in their early 40's and this cute little girl that couldnt have been older than 5. so the parents place their order...ill have 4 cheeseburgers..an orange soda, whatever. and then they ask the little girl what she wants. she looks at me and asks; "are the burgers vegetarian?" being such a strange question i kind of smile and glance at the parents before answering. the little girl goes on to explain that she knows the burgers at mcdonalds are vegetarian and she was just wondering if these were too. out of my peripheral vision, i can see her parents standing behind her dramatically shaking their heads "YES" lol all i could do was smile and nod. a few minutes later when their order is up, the dad comes up to fetch the food. he tells me that the little girl thinks she is a vegetarian and she wont eat anything without making sure its vegetarian first. i didnt really know what to think of this whole thing..lol except that it was strangely funny. i imagine the girl growing up...only to realize her parents had lied to her for most of her childhood. or maybe she would just forget all about in week or two later. i like to think that if she were my kid, i would help her with her new diet plan...even if it only lasted a few weeks. then again, im still a kid myself and would never claim to know anything about parenting, let alone try to tell parents how to do their job. so thats why it was so easy to just smile and nod.
