Local Legends

I love songs about local legends, they can be awe-inspiring to children and memorable to to older folk. One of my favorite tunes about heroes of yesteryear was a song by Stomping Tom Connors called Big Joe Mefferaw. This guy was so huge and powerful that his path would carve valleys and his sweat was the formation of powerful rivers. Other well known tunes come to mind, such as Daniel Boone and Big Bad John.

Anyhow, I was wondering if you good people knew other local songs that celebrated people real or fictitious from around the world that had a tall tale to tell and a fun song to share it with. If you do, please give a title and a link. It might be fun to compare.

I'll leave you with a video of my local favorite.

Hows about Red River Jane?
