Megacolon

So, my wife is a veterinarian and today I was speaking with her on the phone. At the end of our conversation she said she had to go give a cat an enema. Of course, I told her good luck because I can't imagine it being very much fun for any of the parties involved. Don't forget to wear your leather gloves, cats have sharp claws after all.

When she got home she explained that the cat has a condition called megacolon, which is where the the colon loses motility and becomes dilated due to the build up of fecal matter. Once it (the poo ball) becomes too big to fit out the cat's butthole the cat becomes constipated.

Now, the mental image of someone giving a cat an emema cracks me up. Does it help if you bite the back of its neck?

It also got me thinking about something. I wonder if symptoms of megacolon are a problem for people who like to stick gerbils up their butts.
