News or The Bad Stuff That Happened Today?

I think all news shows should be called "The Bad Shit That Happened Today" Show, because that's all they seem to report about. You don't believe me, watch the news today and count how many negative stories they report on and how many positive ones there are. Here are some definitions of the word "news":

1. The presentation of a report on recent or new events in a newspaper or other periodical or on radio or television.

2. A person, thing, or event considered as a choice subject for journalistic treatment; newsworthy material.

The second one is interesting, an event "considered" as a choice subject...well who makes that choice? Are you telling me that there are now positive news stories out there? Of course there are, but I guess they're not deemed "newsworthy material".

The funny thing is, most news reports do usually have a "nice" news story, you know the one; it usually comes at the end of the broadcast. I guess they put that in there to make us all feel better after bombarding us with shootings, stabbings, beatings, murders, suicides, accidents, wars, tropical storms, and drug busts. Doesn't the "nice" news story make you feel nice though? Of course it does, so why are there not more of them?

My proposal is to have a "nice news" network, one that only has nice, positive news items on it; wouldn't that be a breath of fresh air? I think so.
