I am an aspiring self taught guitar player that enjoys playing all styles of music, though I tend to gravitate towards metal. I feel I have come a long way as a guitarist, but my lack of formal training sometimes feels like a crutch when it comes to theory and traditional techniques. Currently I am working on odd meters. I can play in odd meters just fine, but actually understanding the theory behind it and how to write music on paper using odd meter is a task that has, so far, escaped me. Is there anyone out there than can explain intermediate odd meters to me? I am pretty versed in 4/4 and 3/4 time signatures, but signatures like 7/8 and 9/4 are still giving me problems.
