Sound of the world.

As the boy turned 2, it was determined to start him into learning how to speak and learn his abc's. His mother tried for months with no success, almost giving up hope. One day during the wash being turned on, this was the first time that the boy has expressed anything toward sound, as he pressed his ear against the metal washermachine. A doctor visit turned a twist in the family life. It was found out, he too as hard of hearing, much like his older brother but worst. His own twin sister's hearing was pin dropping hearing, far greater than his.

He was now 2 1/2, wearing hearing aids, and enrolled into a special school for speech therapy. He learned his abc's, sign language and was quick reading lips. He would to remain in this school until he reached the age of 5, where he went to a local regular school in the district. When the school found out of the disability, he was being ushered in where other handicap kids were taught. His mother pushed against the idea, not to alienate the boy from the regular kids. Giving in, the school helped out, by buying a much more learning tool, where the teacher would wear a microphone and the boy having a reciever. He would be able to hear her much better, at any place in the room or building. They enrolled a speech teacher, to continue his speech therapy throughout the school year.

Moving on to a different school district, they already had a speech therapist, she would go on to tutor the boy until his 8th grade. After that, there were no speech therapy. Though, this highschool, had a set of classes with one main teacher, who taught the "slow". The "slow" was a mixture of physically and mentally handicapped teenagers, who had made it this far in life to make it to the special room in high school. Since he had a hearing problem, they thought it woud be a grand idea to put him in the room with the slow and try it out. It took less than a week, and the slow teacher had made a movement for him to be placed in the regular classes. Keeping him there would hinder his abilities, from making better grades and new friends.

After graduating high school with a mediocre gpa, he went on to college, where he finished his two year degree with a 3.25 gpa. Still a mediocre gpa, but he was finally done with school and had summers free to do whatever.  In only after a month off from school, got a job and has only taken 3 weeks off in the last 6 yrs. Thats life for ya.

Looking back today, I can say, I  enjoyed most of the schooling. The funniest moment I had was when the 2 grade teacher forgot to turn her microphone off, and me having the receiver, I heard ploop fizz wizz, for a week solid. I then got tired of this, and informed my teacher of this, which she still has not had much to say to me since that last day of class.

Thanks for reading this, I'd would be reading your lips right now, but a screen prevents me to do so.
