I was thinking about the question of why people use drugs. I've read many comments on this sight to the effect that drugs are for losers or for people who are bored, afraid, etc. In many cases that may be true but I have another theory.
I've had broken bones and surgery and I like the mild feeling of euphoria I experience when I am on a pain pill like Vicodin or Percocet. I've also taken said pills for recreation, when I was not in pain. Why, I wondered, if one is not in physical pain, do the pills make one feel better?
I have a theory that just LIVING, or being a spiritual being in a physical body hurts. We have this baseline of pain and when we use an opiate (or alcohol or pot or religeon or trans fatty foods -nummy-) we ease that pain somewhat. Maybe that's why we have so many problems as humans. We are suffering the cramps and headaches of living in a physical body. Sprirts with PMS.
Maybe when we die and are released from our body we feel high beyond belief? I don't know. I am an Agnostic. Maybe we just dissolve into nothingness. It's something to ponder. I wasn't even high when I thought this up.
