People, stop making excuses and go vote!

There are too many people in the US who say, “I am not going to vote, because one vote will not matter.” I used to be one of those people. However, we have two idiots running for office, I hate them both. I think McCain is the lesser of the two evils, I want him to win, but from the looks of it now Obama is going to be the next president. :(

The thing about voting is: If you don’t vote, you have no right to bitch about the person that won. So I am going to go cast my vote for McCain and when Obama wins, I will earn my right to bitch about it and I will all the time!

People always say that one vote will not matter. They are usually right. Most decisions win by a ton of votes. But there have been several decisions in US history that won or lost by just one vote.

Here are a few of them decisions that barely won by one vote:

1.     When the USA was just getting established as a country, most people spoke either English or German. So they took a vote and asked people which one they wanted to keep as our national language.
They voted and English won by just ONE vote.
If it had not been for that tie breaking vote, we would probably be speaking German in the US today (Granted, there is no official, National Language in the US, but they decided to make English the main accepted language).

2.     The capital city of Michigan used to be Detroit. But they wanted to move the capital building to a more centrally located city, so they took a vote to find out where the people in the state of MI wanted to move it. Lansing, MI won by just one vote. That is still the capital city of MI now.

3.     Andrew Johnson avoided impeachment by 1 vote in 1868.

So before you make excuses about why you should not vote, keep this in mind. If you don’t vote, the candidate you support may lose the election by that one vote. You will also have no right to complain if the other guy wins.

I know how the Electoral College works people. Each state has a certain number of reps who are supposed to vote for the candidate who won in that state. But, they don’t have to. Once that person goes into the booth to vote, they can say they are going to vote for one person, but no one is looking and they can vote for whomever they want. But your vote determines who is supposed to get the most electoral votes.
