Retirement
I've been in the Army for way too long. I'm tired of not being at home when my wife or kids need me.
I got a call yesterday from my daughter, she was crying really hard and I had trouble making out what she was saying. Turns out she lost a close friend from high school in a freak accident. He was on the upper level of a double decker bus, and the driver deviated from the normal route and drove under a bridge that was 3 feet too low. It killed my daughter's friend and 3 other people. It happened in Syracuse, NY. Tragic.
So once again, something happened and I wasn't there for my family. How the hell do you hug someone over the phone? Can't do it. Phone calls just don't cut it any more. As soon as I get back home from Korea, I turning in my retirement paperwork. Two deployments to central America, one to Haiti, one to Guam, two to Iraq, and now I'm 7 months into a year long unaccompanied stint in Korea. Enough is enough. The Army got twenty years out of me, and now it's time for me to focus on my family.
I need a new job. Any suggestions?
