I Got Nothing

Our scene begins in the office of producer Jay Roach. Once a month he opens his office to writers to pitch their screenplay. Each in hopes of bringing their dream into reality. The camera pans from the window to Jay sitting behind his large mahogany desk. He looks up as the first candidate - Sam - enters the room....

*Sam approaches the desk and extends his hand

                    Sam
"Thank you for taking the time to see me Mr. Roach."

*Without eye contact Jay gives the wet fish hand shake and replies

                    Jay
"Happy to. Have a seat. Lets hear what you've got"

*Sam hands Jay the screenplay. Knowing Jay's time is limited Sam jumps right in.

                    Sam
"You bet! The movie starts with 3 women all at different points in their life. The story then backtracks to college where they all met and and basically had the same jumping off point. Education, social class and such. Then we bounce between them and see how they took different paths by seemingly simple decisions they made for themselves. It has some comedic moments but ultimately is a drama of discovery and growth.

*Jay perks up

                    Jay
              "Comedy?"

                   Sam
"Well yes, but the main idea is the trials each woman endures."

                    Jay
"Do you any actresses in mind?"

                    Sam
"Since the dialog really drives the story, I was thinking we would go with unknowns. A major star might detract from the meaning."

                    Jay
                 "Nudity?"

                    Sam
"Nudity really doesn't play well into the whole theme."

*Jay draws a deep breath and holds it in for a few seconds.

*Exhaling Jay says "That is an interesting concept. Leave the script with me and I will look it over. Thanks for coming in."

*Jay stands - puts hands in pockets and give Sam a 'you can go now' nod to the door

*Watching to make sure Sam is out of sight, Jay drops the script in the trash.

*In walks the next writer - Sean.

*They exchange pleasantries and the pitch begins.

*Jay looks at the title page 'The Fockers Go On Vacation' and pans through the rest of the script.

*Jay leans forward

                                 Jay
                            "Uh Sean."

                               Sean
                             "Ya Jay?"

                                  Jay
"You only have a title page. All the rest are blank. What gives?"

                                Sean
"We have De Niro and Hoffman on board for whatever shit we come up with."

*Jay slumps back in his seat, puts his hands behind his head and grins

The camera cuts to the title page centered on Jay's desk. In slow motion we see a rubber stamp that pops the words 'GREEN LIGHT' at the top of the page.
