Sharks

Recently we've had a discussion about surfing with Hakik. Specifically about shark attacks. It turns out that a lot of people still think sharks are a threat to humans.

My cousins taught me how to surf when I was 14. I was never attacked by a shark in all my life. I've never witnessed anybody get attacked by a shark. None of my friends ever got bitten by a shark. I'm quite sure I never even watched somebody say they were attacked by sharks on TV.

The movie Jaws is science-fiction and it makes people believe bull shit. Sharks are bad ass fish but they don't eat people. They might bite you by accident if you fuck around with them or you're bleeding. The sharks I know are very well-mannered and cute.

But there's been times when beaches were closed because of shark sightings, even in Sydney. Why? Because there's still idiots that don't know the basics about shark decorum. It's widely known that you can pet sharks. Some even like being touched by humans. Even if they don't, they'll just leave instead of biting you after you touch them. A lot of people try to impress their friends and wrestle the smaller sharks. Some try to put bandanas on their heads. That's just sick.

Here's some of the rules that you should remember when surfing around sharks:

* don't put bandanas on their heads
* no poking in the eye (they don't like it)
* if you do anger a shark, don't run - there's always room for parley
* don't ride the sharks unless you know how to
* don't try to high-five sharks until you're certain that they're impressed

That's all you've got to know.

Remember that it only applies to Australian sharks. Canadian sharks are faggots and everybody knows that.
