The Blog Section et al.

Firstly, I'd like to address the situation that we've encountered in the blog section of late (and on the comment boards) regarding the dissemination of personal information. It is now and has always been against the rules of the site to spread the personal information of any other user on the site. First offenses will result in a comment and upload ban. Subsequent offenses will lead to account locking or removal. This has become a real problem as to try to avoid a snow ball effect there will be no exceptions to this rule.

Secondly, with regards to the slew of blogs recently about proper modding and the suggestions posed by users such as Rednote, I'd like to point out a few things. It is not news to us that the blog section isn't what it used to be. When the site split during the transition of staff, we lost a lot of the community, and if not most of our writers, definitely most of our audience.

The problem with the wild suggestions and accusations regarding the handling of the section, is that generally people don't understand how it works. Sites such as ours have a system in which things get done. For instance, if we wanted to implement a system for discovering alts (as so arrogantly promised by one would-be blog mod) we would have to go through a system. First, We come up with a solution of plan of attack with regards to a problem. Then, that idea is flushed out for validity and feasibility. Next it is prioritized with regards to all the other projects, suggestions and problems that happen to be currently in the works or in cue.

What I'm getting at is that mods such as myself, yank or ucm only have the power to work with the tools that we are given until our suggestions are taken and prioritized in a way that we can see them come to life.

As far as choosing a blog member to moderate the blog section, though I feel like any decision would further cause strife in the blog community, is not a terrible idea. I would feel much more comfortable talking about it if the blog section could even hint at getting along or behind a user or two that they think would be a good blog mod. Though, let's be clear about what that actually means. We don't have moderator powers for specific sections. You're either a mod or you aren't. Would it be awesome to have a new mod class that's just for the blogs? Sure! Is it going to happen anytime soon? Probably not.

That isn't to say that we shouldn't be "putting our arms around the blog section" and making sure it's working better than it is currently, as one users pointed out. We do need to have a bigger presence here, but you must understand that there is a lot of this site that needs to be attended to.

I understand that a few people have chosen to blog together on a new site, and I can respect that. You're always welcome here and you are missed.

We are working on fixing and building up the blog section, but we're also working on fixing and building up the entire site. Please bear with us. AND STOP POSTING OTHER USERS INFO.
