Beyond Man and Machines, Chapter 3

Breakwater Farming Village, 50 miles from Kansas City. 0231hrs, 31th October 2011

At Mr and Mrs Thomson's house frying pans are left on stoves, their contents dried and black. TV's blast into their empty living room. At Ms Ellis' house, a faucet runs continously in the kitchen, pans boil over on the stove. Vegetables left half prepared on chopping boards. At Mr and Mrs Philip's the bath overfills, the water flowing under bathroom door.  The doors on the cattle stalls hang open, chicken coups stand empty. A phone rings unanswered in one of the houses, filling the empty silence.

At 0413am, A fire breaks out at Mr and Mrs Thomson's house. Left unchecked it slowly takes hold, then quickly spreading to other houses. By 0900hrs a UPS delivery driver finds the smoldering remains of the village. Authorities will not find any trace of bodies or livestock in the debris or within the surrounding area.
