Over Exposure
Since my annual trips to Myrtle Beach came to a stop a few years ago, I haven't seen much sun. I have become the brown haired equivalent of a ginger. My skin will start to turn red even if I think about going out in June, July or August.
So I did something I haven't done for years. I went to a tanning bed. It was the safe way to to get that base. You can control your exposure to the light and minimize the risk. At least that is how it is supposed to work.
I figured a small step (15 minutes) would be the way to go. Very little chance of any sunburn. My calculations were wrong. I should have realized how sensitive my skin had become. That night, the aloe from CVS, became the best $5.99 I had spent in years.
I don't regret the experience. It is no fun to spend your life in a shelter. Of course I wish I would have got it right the first time. Sometimes being willing to get burned is half the battle.
