American Degradation

I've  known for  many years that America was heading down the wrong road and now my son has witnessed that road first hand. As he tried to visit his girlfriend in Maine, he got turned back at the border. I don't want to write a long blog and I know you don't want to read one as well, so I'll keep it short.

My son is studying Arabic and Hebrew and he had some study books with him. He wanted to practice writing on the long bus ride and at stops in between. When the border guards saw the books they took him aside to interrogate him. They asked him what the books were about and he explained that he was a student of language. They baulked at the idea. After a process of interrogation  lasting seven hours, that included finger printing, picture taking and signing of papers, he was sent back across the border in a taxi with a known felon.

To get a ride back to Montreal he had to go cap in hand, begging for a ride on one of the buses as they stopped crossing the border. After two hours of being turned down, one very dubious Chinese bus driver accepted him as long as he handed over his passport to him. Getting that back required further humiliation once they reached the bus station.

I've always been a great supporter of the American people, their love of freedom and the pride they use to put into the things they did and built. That has now faded back to a great sadness for a once great country. Everywhere, there are the complaints that it's, "The Government! It's big corporations. It's the mega wealthy. The New World Order." It is none of those things, it is "The people and by the people".
