Being the only self employed, small c conservative in a large family of families who have only known public work and  welfare livelihoods, it's an arduous task to make a point for the self reliant right minded person, but boy did I hit them with a zinger tonight. Most of my family and extended family are very socialist, except my boys, I made sure they were brought up correctly. 


The conversation followed on whether Margaret Thatcher did a good job while in power. The old matriarch of my sister in law's, mother in law's family, followed by a harping of other socialist in the family said, "Margaret Thatcher closed down the coal mines." With a sense of righteousness, they all looked at each other nodding there heads in approval. 


I then pointed out how strange it is for the left to baulk at the closing of the mines in Britain, all the while demand that the coal minds here in North America be closed down. The old geese turned and shook like a dog shaking a bad case of the wets. Of course, the hypocrisy was obvious. Dyed in the wool socialist not only have blinders, but they have little filtering devices in their ears and I was not to be heard from again.  Why waste my breath?
