Call Center Headaches

It's been a while since something has pissed me off enough to write about it, but alas the world has kicked me in the ass again and I feel the need to vent. Here goes:

I had to get a hold of this crap-ass company I recently bought a (broken) chair from. The chair was bought at a local and reputable store, but the brand name was unfamiliar to me. Thinking the demo looked good, I decided to order it. The chair finally arrived....in a box, for shit sake!!....and to my amazement was broken at the back.

I thought no big deal, I'll get the place I bought it from to take it back. They said no, call the company and gave me the 800 number. I called, got put on hold for fifty minutes and eventually got in contact with a sales representitive.....in India.

Fucking India!!

The box said "Made in Canada" (yes, Canada. Hosers and syrup, ha ha), assembled in Canada, and it was a Canadian company. So why the head office call center in India??

The guy I spoke with (who was quite polite and helpful, despite my anger now) said that the call center was there because it was cheaper for the company to have all calls directed to another country. He refused to tell me the difference in salary, but I'd expect it to be waaaaaaaaaaaay different to comparable call center workers here in Canada and the United States.

Is iths that common an occurance? What happened to national pride and standing behind your product, which I think involves keeping all aspects of the company at least on the same continent.

Anyone else experience this? I found it quite frustrating.

......I still don't have my chair. I'll piss about that later.
