One Less Cause

I wanted to talk a bit about my spiritual side. My family is catholic and I was raised the same. However, I am an atheist because despite how much that I listen to church-talk and how many people that believe in this faith, I myself cannot. To me there is no god, no higher power, no preordained purpose.

So here is my issue: people of the faith that are extreme enough that they push it in your face and expect you to change your ways and swallow it down. I'm sure they are at every college but those rat fucking bastards that stand out and scream at you saying that you are homosexual, perverts, sinners, going to hell and all that shit. You know what I mean? People like that are the same type that carried out the 9/11 attacks seven years ago.

Last year it was worse because they would camp out in front of the library and would be within a few feet of you as they screamed and insulted you but this year they had to be moved further out because students beat the hell out of them a few times. Honestly, all that they do for me is to make me hate religion that much more. If I wanted to listen to it then I would go to a church. By coming to me you make me that much more wary and that much more resentful of your existence.

What has religion done for us? For some people it is a necessity because they need something that explains their life and their purpose. Some want to know that there is something more to death than just an end. But for many of us, religion is just something that is a part of our lives because it is pushed on us and we are forced to accept it. Others more, like myself, reject what is pushed on us.

The government, the establishment that pushes for freedom of speech has "In God we trust" on every form of currency. The schools force us to say the pledge of allegiance which has the line "One nation under God". For a nation that is so free, why do we have so many ties to religion? I have no ties to religion but no one ever cared to ask me if I didn't want to say the pledge of allegiance or use currency that had the "In god we trust" stamped on it. It was never a big enough deal to me to actually protest it but it is still a concept.

There was a song called Imagine that was redone by Tool and some of the lyrics were:

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

That is what I want. I know that on this website there is a lot of hatred and anger and I am the biggest supporter of free speech. And using my free speech, I want a world where there are no religions, no actual wars, and nothing but living peacefully and harmoniously.

I know it's long. Thanks for reading if you got this far.
