Scientist Causing Destruction Of Earth?

I Was going through tons of pages of news and weird articles when i came across this one about Scientists having suggestions that a $350m experiment planned for autumn could cause the destruction of the Earth. The director of the laboratory commissioning the machine says there is "Slight chance" of the atom-smashing experiment causing a disaster, such as a black hole that would devour the entire Earth. Researchers have spent eight years constructing the "Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider" at a Lab on Long Island in New York state. Its goal is to smash the nuclei of atoms together and study their wreckage to determine the fundamental properties of matter.

The collider takes atoms of gold and swings them around two 3.8 kilometre (2.4 mile) circular tubes where powerful magnets accelerate them to almost the speed of light (If you have ever seen terminator 3, towards the end of the movie where they get stuck to the giant tube magnet, is what the machine looks like).... When they collide, they do so in minute collisions that are 10,000 times hotter than the Fucking Sun! Scientists hope to create a quark-gluon plasma, state of matter that has not existed "naturally" in the Universe since the Big Bang.

So what if the earth gets destroyed? Because some asses want to study something? This is some weird shit and i don't see how research like this is allowed. Any Opinions?
