When Cavemen Lie!

Thousands of years ago in the warm African jungle a large tribe of early man had wandered north in search of food. They wore no clothes, for in their native environment non were needed.
The tribe survived on berries, grubs and insects. In time the weather became cold, something these people never had experienced. They discovered that if they slept in caves, it was warmer and safer.

As the weather became colder, even the cave walls were not sufficient to keep them comfortable. At night they would cuddle together to keep from freezing to death. One older man, named Umph, who was becoming ill and delusional started to grunt about a covering that they could wrap themselves in to keep warm. The other cavemen became angry because no such thing existed and grunted he was lying and only good for food.  The more aggressive cavemen killed him, ate him and tossed the skin and bones outside.

After a couple of weeks one of the more clever cavemen, named Erk, took the sun baked skin of  the dead man and wrapped his calloused frozen feet with it. He then took the plasticized intestine to hold it all in place. The aggressive cavemen saw what he had done and became terrified and superstitious. The clever caveman grunted, that what he made kept his feet warm and dry. The majority of the tribe called him a liar because such things do not exist. The tribe decided to kill him and eat him.

The tribe wanted to make an example of him so they hung his discarded body parts high in a tree. One night a hungry bear could smell the remains and climbed the tall tree. The branch broke and the bear died. The tribe ate the bear and threw away the skin and other parts too tough to eat.

A clever cave women, named Uhg, retrieved the bear skin placed it around her body and she did become warm. On her way back to the cave the others thought she was a bear and attacked her with stones and spears until she was dead. The tribe was confused as to how can a bear have a woman's body inside it's skin. They all agreed that the women was pretending to be a bear and therefore a liar.  They ate the women and cuddled under the bear skin in the cave and they did become warm. Soon after the more clever members of the tribe did learn to wrap themselves in animal skins and share this knowledge with all the other cavemen.

There is an ancient legend in caveman lore, about a great thinker called Umph and his disciples called Erk and  Uhg who saw things that others did not. They were called delusional liars and deceivers. The foolish ignorant tribes of those days did slay and eat them.  But because of the Great ones'  imagination and courage today we have boots and wraps made of the skins of  the animals.
