Why Jobs are Important to Everyone.

Everyone knows that in order to have government social programs such as public education, government tuition loans, health care, unemployment insurance, and pensions, there needs to be people who pay taxes, in order to pay for it all.

Today's society, especially in Canada, is facing a huge problem.   Baby Boomers (one of the most populous generations existing today)  are reaching retirement age.  Not only that, people are living longer, with the rise of the average life expectancy (longer retirements).    In addition, there is also an increase in the average age young people begin work.  More and more young people are going to school, longer, leaving them unable to enter the workforce full time, until later on.   All of this adds up to a larger dependent population percentage.

What that means is that there are more people dependent on tax payers, than ever before. There are also less people paying taxes, when you factor in the current fertility rate that is below that of which is considered an efficient population replacement rate.

What that means for the 20 - 50 year old's of today, is an increased financial burden.  We are the ones who are being held responsible for paying for the dependent.
It is predicted that the dependency ratio will continue to increase.  Kids will continue to go to school longer.  Life expectancy is going to go up.

We are no longer in an age where students leave school at 16, and begin to work full time.  It's more like 24.  Those who retire at 65, are expected to live another 20 - 30 years, where they are dependent on their pensions.

We as a society have no choice but to care for these people.  We were all dependent on tax payers once, when we were too young to work, and we will again once we retire.   If we want to have these programs in place for ourselves, and our children, we have to pay for it.

We won't be able to pay for it (and thus have access to it), unless we have a sufficient job market.  We have to insure that everyone who is able to work, can find work.   We won't do that by moving production to foreign countries. We won't do it by increasing the overhead (taxes, energy) cost to employers.  We definitely aren't getting anywhere with the temporary jobs that our governments are so proud to provide.

Unless you have enough money, right now, to support yourself and your family for the rest of your lives, this is important to you.  Someone needs to pay, or else it's abolished.  That goes for heath care, education, government pensions, everything our taxes pay for.   You may not be worried about your job security, but that does not mean your financial future is not on the line.
