PFC Allen Fuehrer of the 100th division, Lembach, France, was struck with an armor-peircing bullet that passed completely through a hand grenade in his pocket without exploding it, then passed through his bible. Furhrer was only slightly wounded.

The mascot of Sgt. Robert W. Ferling's batallion was left behind when the troops embarked from Oran, Alegra for Italy. but miraculously, he found his way to a port and crossed the sea to Italy, and made his way back to his master.
