Picking on my mother-in-law

I used to make fun of my mother-in-law for being super gullible. I could tell her the St. Louis arch had been knocked down by space aliens and she'd believe me.
But one day I told her, "Nancy, you know how I always kid you about being gullible? I've been thinking that maybe you're not gullible, just really trusting. That it is actually a gift of grace not to be doubtful and skeptical of people and the things they say."
When I said this she was visibly moved. She said "You don't know how much this means to me. You are so sweet to tell me and I appreciate your willingness to do so."
Then I asked, "Do you really feel this way?"
She said, "Yes, yes I do."
And I said "Gee, Nancy, you really are gullible."
