The Global Slavery Index ranks 162 countries by three factors: estimated prevalence by population, child marriage, and human trafficking in and out of a country. The measure is heavily weighted to reflect the first factor, prevalence. -

Definition of modern slavery is: the possession and control of a person in such a way as to significantly deprive that person of their individual liberty, with the intent of exploiting that person through their use, management, profit, transfer or disposal. Usually achieved through means such as violence, deception andor coercion. -

This report estimates that there are 29.8 million people in modern slavery globally. -

Mauritania. Estimated number enslaved 140,000 to 160,000 but is likely as high as 20 percent of the population. Total Country Population: 3,796,141 as of 2012 -

Slavery in Mauritania primarily takes the form of chattel slavery, meaning adults and children in slavery are the full property of their masters who exercise total ownership over them and their descendants. Slave status is passed down through the generations. People in slavery may be bought and sold, rented out and given away as gifts. Slavery is prevalent in both rural and urban areas. -

Haiti. Estimated number enslaved 200,000 to 220,000 but estimated higher for children. Total Population 10,173,775 -

The Restavek is a cultural practice where disadvantaged children from rural areas are sent to work as domestic helpers for wealthier families, usually living in urban areas. The Restavek system is widely abused and anywhere between 1 in 10, or 300,000 500,000 children in Haiti are exploited. Many of these children suffer the cruelest form of neglect, denied food, water, a bed to sleep in and constant physical and emotional abuse. -

Pakistan. Estimated number enslaved 2,000,000 to 2,200,000. Population 179,160,111 -

The brick making industry has a particularly high level of bonded labourers, exploiting not only vulnerable children, but also traditional low-caste family labourers. Both children and adults, male and female are slaves in primary industries, manufacturing, commercial sexual exploitation, forced begging and domestic servitude. -

India. Estimated number enslaved 13,300,000 to 14,700,000. Population 1,236,686,732. India also has the most slaves total than any other country in the world -

Many of Indias enslaved have not been moved from one place to another, they are enslaved in their own villages. Slavery occurs across various industries to the worst forms of child labour, commercial sexual exploitation, and forced and servile marriage. -

Nepal. Estimated number enslaved 250,000 to 270,000. Population 27,474,377 -

Nepal is considered a source, transit and destination country for men, women and children in modern slavery. Within Nepal itself, modern slavery takes the form of forced labour, especially in brick kilns and embroidered textiles, and forced sex work. It also persist in agriculture, cattle rearing, brick kilns, the stone-breaking industry and domestic work. -

Moldova. Estimated number enslaved 32,000 to 35,000. Population 3,559,541 -

Moldova is a source of slaves. HUGE portions of the population emigrated to other eastern European countries, mainly Russia and Ukraine, because of the Moldova's very low GDP and poor economy. The emigrants are exploited into the sex industry, construction, agriculture, and domestic work. -

It is estimated that 72.7 percent of the estimated total 29.6 million people in modern slavery are in Asia. -

The country with the second highest absolute numbers of enslaved people is China, with an estimated 2,800,000 to 3,100,000 in modern slavery. -

Although China is modernizing, they have enacted few if any anti-slavery laws or bans. Work conditions can be extreme in conditions and in lack of safety measures -

It is estimated that 3.36 percent of the estimated total 29.8 million people in modern slavery are in Russia and Eurasia. Russia ranks 49th overall and 3rd in the region -

Russias large economy draws vulnerable workers, some of whom are ultimately enslaved in agriculture or construction. The slaves, in all ages and sexes come from the former soviet countries, as well as the previously mentioned Moldova -

Africa accounts for 16.36 percent of the estimated total global slave trade. Ranking high on the index in Africa besides Mauritania: Benin, Cote d'Ivoire, The Gambia, Gabon, Sengal, and Ethiopia, among others. -

The U.S.A ranks 134 out of 162, with a calculation of 59,644 enslaved persons, but estimates range between 57,000 to 63,000 people. -

What about some countries like Sudan, Taiwan, Cyprus, Kosovo, ect.? The information from their countries are not reliable. In other words, its so bad or corrupt or disorganized that keeping statistics by a central government or organization won't happen.
