1.
Ice Hotel - According to its website, the 24-year-old IceHotel in Jukkasjrvi, Sweden, is the first and largest ice hotel on the planet. Who knew the concept of a hotel made of 30,000 tonnes of snice thats snow and ice would take off but apparently it has indeed spawned some competition. Before you book your stay, be sure to read the information about how to dress appropriately for the -7 degree Celcius temperature you can expect to experience in your room. -
2.
The Crazy House - The Hang Nga Guesthouse or Crazy House in Dalat, Vietnam, was designed by the daughter of a former president of Vietnam. Although you can pay around 50 or 60 a night to stay in one of the Salvador Dali-inspired rooms, be forewarned that it turns into a kind of museum or tourist attraction during the day, when visitors are bused in to tour the place from top to bottom for a fee. -
3.
Hotel Marques de Riscal - The Hotel de Marques de Riscal, in Elciego, Spain, was designed by world-renowned architect Frank O. Gehry and provides a striking contrast to the medieval village it is situated in. -
4.
Jumbo Stay Hotel - Although many of our worst nights have been spent on airplanes, the guests of the Jumbo Stay Hotel, a converted Boeing 747 near the airport in Stockholm, Sweden, arent complaining at least not much. Some of the reviews on TripAdvisor say its noisy, loud, and not particularly comfortable. -
5.
Magic Mountain Lodge - You have to brave a rope bridge swinging high above the forest floor to get into this thirteen room guest house called La Montana Magica Lodge, which is nestled in the middle of a huge private nature reserve in Neltume, Chile. You might also have to dodge the cascade of water that erupts out of the top of the volcano-shaped building every now and then. Visitors to the hotel complain that its expensive, its difficult to get to, and that the service is terrible. And yet everyone says you shouldnt miss it. -
6.
Salt Hotel - At the Palacio de Sal, located in The Great Uyuni Salar in Bolivia, everything is made entirely out of salt, from the salt bricks in the walls, floors, and ceilings to the beds themselves. You can go golfing on a course made of salt -- or take a salt bath. Even the restaurant specializes in salty dishes. -
7.
The Mirrorcube at the Treehotel - The Mirrorcube is just one of the stunning rooms at the unusual Treehotel, which is located 40 miles south of the Arctic Circle in Harads, Sweden. Other accommodations here include a similarly hanging room encased in twigs and branches, fittingly called the Birds Nest, a capsule, dubbed The UFO, that hovers over the starkly beautiful landscape, and a cabin on stilts that is known as the Blue Cone, although it is bright red on the outside, pure white on the inside, and not at all cone-shaped. -
8.
The Manta Resort - The Manta Resorts Underwater Room is an astonishing and astonishingly expensive -- tiny private island for rent. You can sunbathe or stargaze on the roof of the structure, relax and dine on the main floor, and sleep thirteen feet below the surface of the water in the underwater chamber, where spotlights underneath each window shine on the sea life swimming past. Its a very beautiful concept and only slightly terrifying. -
9.
The Desert Lotus Hotel - The stunning Desert Lotus Hotel is located in the Xiangshawan Desert, about 350 miles west of Beijing. Tourists to the hotel can entertain themselves by or running or sliding down the sand dunes, which causes strange booming sounds that have not yet been scientifically explained. This, along with the costumed dancers who are hired to perform all over the resort, would make a stay in this otherwise remote desert area even more surreal. -
10.
Chalkeys Treehouse at the Lion Sands Game Reserve - I have never seen a hotel room more beautiful or more romantic than this it is the Chalkey Treehouse at the Lion Sands, a five-star safari lodge in Sabi Sands, South Africa. Enjoy a delicious gourmet meal under the stars and then curl up with your loved one under that white canopy as you fall asleep to the sound of lions roaring nearby.
