A basement door that is beyond creepy holds a secret yet to be unraveled.

A man rented a house, but only the main floor. The basement is not occupied.The rental agreement is for the main floor of the house, not the yard, not the basement. He have been told its empty, and didn't think much of it. But one day he heard a noise, and his cat lead him to said door and wouldn't stop scratching it.

The door looked rather weird. He took photos and shared his find on the internet asking for suggestions for what he should do. "As you can see the knob has been torn off. I previously tried to open the door with no success, never gave it a second thought. Using a flash light I have looked into the hole and all I can see is what looks to be a staircase with walls on either side. Nothing else.".

"There is a piece of tape that is stuck to the top right corner of the door and connects to the wall beside it. My only conclusion to explain the tape is to discreetly know if the door has been opened or not, the obvious being that if the door has been opened, the tape will no longer be attached.".

As you can see the knob is gone, however the locking mechanism remains. "I am able to pull back the lock in the door, however the door does not budge. This lock is not the lock keeping this door shut.".

The owner, when asked, said there's nothing in the basement, and he shouldn't mess around, because he only rents the main floor. The basement is off limits.

Curiosity got the better of him though. "I used a flexible bread knife to see if there might be a nail or something holding the door shut, I ran it along the bottom gap of the door. When I got to the bottom right corner of the door the knife hit a stick or something, I herd it fall down. Was something resting against the door on the other side? If this is the only exit from the basement, how would someone be able to rest a stick against the inside of the door and get themselves out?"

What happened the next day, shocked him. "I was gone all day today, and when I came home the back door was wide open.".

He took a walk around the house and noticed something strange - "Mounted to the outside of the house, close to the back door there is what appears to be a camera, watching the yard and anyone who tries to access the back door. But why?". When he asked the owner, he got mad, very mad; he told him to pack his bags and leave. The mystery remained unsolved. What do you think happened there?
