I don't write many blogs, but I am waiting for the laundry so thought I would write one.  Do any of you have any good April Fools experiences?

This one happened ages ago when I was still in Elementary School.  It happened when I was in grade six.  When homeroom class started, the teacher must have decided to play an April Fools joke on us.  She told the class that the washrooms were broken, and that we would have to use these buckets (there were two, which were labeled boys and girls)

Thing was, most of us were a bit shocked, but realized this was likely an April Fools joke....except the for mentally challenged kid.  Before the teacher could do anything, he proceeded to take a shit in the boys bucket.  At first there is silence then one boy starts to laugh, then the entire class erupts in laughter.

You could see the anger in the kids face, then he took the shit bucket and threw it at the teacher.  Now some stopped laughing at that point, but it made me laugh even more.


So anyone else have some April Fools jokes that have gone wrong?

Well, I have just come across this little tidbit of information, SOPA is raising a little bit too much heat from the public so lets roll out the new version - H.R 1981: The Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act has just passed committee and is to be brought before The House.

The way it is worded, you just have to be suspect of breaking ANY LAW and they can search through your internet history.  Under the act, all citizens net history is recorded  - including your bank accounts, credit cards, address, IP addresses you have been using - everything.  Might as well call this The Encouragement of Blackmail by Law Enforcement Act.  I can hear it now, if you oppose this law, you support pedophiles and child molestation.  People who preach "ITS FOR THE CHILDREN" crap should be slapped upside the head.

Molesting children is wrong, and the bastards should be shot in the head, but don't lump us all in the mess.  Parents should stop looking towards government to help raise their kids - JUST WATCH WHAT YOUR KIDS ARE DOING ON THE NET and you won't have anything to worry about.

Oh, want to know who thought up this beauty, its the same fucker who dreamed up SOPA.

Isn't a coincidence, that yesterday, many sites went black in protest of SOPA (talks start up again next month by the way) that they do this.  The FED said fuck it, don't need SOPA and shut the site down.  The FEDS pretty much said We don't care where you are, we will get you.  Hey assholes, what about all the CEOs of IG, Goldman Sachs and all those other fucking banks that bailed out to the tune of trillions - WHERE ARE THOSE ARRESTS?  I know those won't happen, because those companies contribute millions to politicians.

But yes, you could find illegal movies, games on megaupload - but shutting it down?  That would be like shutting down New York City, because there are lots of illegal drugs and firearms there. 

So now the US government can shut down legitimate businesses without any sort of warrant or provocation... I don't fucking get how this is anything within the remote universe of legality.

Depending on who requests the court orders, the actions could include barring online advertising networks and payment facilitators such as PayPal from doing business with the allegedly infringing website, barring search engines from linking to such sites, and requiring Internet service providers to block access to such sites. The bill would make unauthorized streaming of copyrighted content a crime, with a maximum penalty of five years in prison for 10 pieces of music or movies within six months. The bill also gives immunity to Internet services that voluntarily take action against websites dedicated to infringement, while making liable for damages any copyright holder who knowingly misrepresents that a website is dedicated to infringement.

Well damn, must say this is by far the best movie I have seen this year.

Watching this movie reminded me of the good ole days when I was a kid when you watched a movie with your parents and you loved it.  This movie is like a mash of good movies like The Goonies / E.T / Close Encounters, with a bit of horrific overtones like The Burbs / War of the Worlds (if you don't know about those movies then fuck off - or better yet watch them)

One of the good things about this movie is how the movie draws you in, your actually interested in the characters - being a Abrams film, it does have some kick ass explosions, but the important part of the movie is the characters.  (which really won over this movie for me - it is like Stand by Me and like I said before, The Goonies)


Also, for a older fella like me - there is a lot of nostalgia with the time frame of the movie being 1979 (ya, some of you wouldn't even be alive then)  Another excellent aspect of this movie is - less is more.  Most of the movie flies by, and you don't even see the alien.  (which just builds up the suspense - and even the attack on the bus, you don't see it very much)


So, is it worth seeing?  I think it is an awesome film, well worth your money to see it in the theater.  It has been awhile since I saw a movie and was very satisfied after I left.  I will definitely be picking this up on blue-ray when it is released.

I have a secret plan to destroy America. If you believe, as many do, that America is too smug, too white bread, too self-satisfied, too rich, lets destroy America. It is not that hard to do. History shows that nations are more fragile than their citizens think. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and they all fall, and that "an autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide."

Here is my plan:

I. We must first make America a bilingual-bicultural country. History shows, in my opinion, that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. One scholar, Seymour Martin Lipset, put it this way: The histories of bilingual and bicultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy. Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon-all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with its Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans.

II. I would then invent "multiculturalism" and encourage immigrants to maintain their own culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal: That there are no cultural differences that are important. I would declare it an Article of Faith that the black and Hispanic dropout rate is only due to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out-of-bounds.

III. We can make the United States a "Hispanic Quebec" without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than Unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently: ...the apparent success of our own multiethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentrically, and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together.

I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with a salad bowl metaphor. It is important to insure that we have various cultural sub-groups living in America reinforcing their differences rather than Americans, emphasizing their similarities.

IV. Having done all this, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated - I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% drop out rate from school.

V. I would then get the big foundations and big business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the Cult of VICTIMOLOGY. I would get all minorities to think their lack of success was all the fault of the majority - I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population.

VI. I would establish dual citizenship and promote divided loyalties. I would "celebrate diversity." "Diversity" is a wonderfully seductive word. It stresses differences rather than commonalities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other - that is, when they are not killing each other. A diverse, peaceful, or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together, and we can take advantage of this myopia. Look at the ancient Greeks.

Dorf's World History tells us: The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshiped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic Games in honor of Zeus and All Greeks venerated the shrine of Apollo at Delphi. A common enemy Persia threatened their liberty. Yet, all of these bonds together were not strong enough to overcome two factors . . . (local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions . . .) If we can put the emphasis on the "Pluribus," instead of the "Unum," we can Balkanize America as surely as Kosovo.

VII. Then I would place all these subjects off limits - make it taboo to talk about. I would find a word similar to "heretic" in the 16th century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like "racist", "xenophobe" that halts argument and conversation.

Having made America a bilingual-bicultural country, having established multiculturalism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of "VICTIMOLOGY", I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra - "That because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good." I would make every individual immigrant sympatric and ignore the cumulative impact.

VIII. Lastly, I would censor Victor Davis Hanson's book Mexifornia this book is dangerous it exposes my plan to destroy America. so please, please if you feel that America deserves to be destroyed please, please don't buy this book! This guy is on to my plan.

The US is really ramping up its war on intellectual property infringement, a war which I'm sure will be just as successful, cheap and supported by the people as the wars on drugs and terrorism. The US has started seizing the domain names of various websites through ICANN - not because owners of these sites were convicted of anything, but merely because complaints have been filed against them.  Update: The blocks function outside of the US too. In other words, the US is forcing its views upon the rest of the world once again (so far t he count of blocked websites is 70)


FUCK THAT SHIT!


How long before we see the US government start closing websites that doesn't toe the line?  Also, when will we start seeing screening checks in malls, libraries and other public places?  When will we see GPS chips put into ID cards?


The biggest kicker is Wikileaks, when will they try to take that site down (and will they release the password to the encrypted files that they released into the torrent community, which I have)

If you like alien invasion films, your going to like Skyline.  Its like independence day on roids....also, it lacks the US gonna win speech from said film (which was good)

I know a lot of people are going to complain about the lack of information - you really don't find out fuck all about the aliens, why they came - zip.  I hear that they (the makers of the film) got screwed with their production budget - that is why most of the action occurs in the condo.  The acting is rather meh, but the CGI - that is pure gold.

Once you see the aliens, and the action between the aliens and the military your jaw will drop to the floor.  As I said, the characters are paper thin - and the directors attempt at making you care about them is pointless - I just want to see more of that kickass CGI.


The ending, well - they should have ended it when you see the aliens wipe out humanity (and use us as spare parts.)  Instead, they give us some baloney drama crap which even made me groan with disappointment.


(and yes, they do kill everyone, their tech, which is kind of borg like totally dominate us)




If you have a nice entertainment center at home, I would just wait and buy this movie on blue-ray.

I have written about this before, but make NO mistake - many Muslims (of course not all) have extreme beliefs and wish us (those of western ideals) dead.  This is just the new way of going about it.  All they are doing is migrating to Western countries, taking advantage of our social programs - breeding and eventually plan on just voting in their insane laws (just take a look at what Sharia Law entails)

I am fucking outraged at these acts - I was in the army reserves, had a friend die in Afghanistan and these scumbags dare do something like this.  I had some Muslims at my work refuse to be quiet during the moment of silence on Thursday - I told them to get the fuck off my machine afterwards.  It is funny, mention something negative about Islam and they will cry and bitch, but it is perfectly ok to slam our beliefs.  I have also read in several forums that people believe that Remeberance Day are white supremacists (fucking unbelievable)

I don't care if you believe the war in Iraqi / Afghanistan - those decisions are made by the government, but don't disrespect our troops.  We need to wake up, if Muslims that move to our country refuse to intergrate to our society should be kicked out - and that is not saying they can't have their religion, but leave the extreme ideals in their own country.



and since I am ranting about Islam/Muslims - I for one do NOT WANT OMAR KHADR sent back to Canada - keep him in the US and let him fucking rot.

Basically, it stated that Britain was debating to remove any teaching of the Holocaust from its school because it offends the Muslim students, that do not believe that such an event occured (as they are taught from their parents)

 

How goddamn braindead do you have to believe that the holocaust didn't happen? (and yes, I realize that the internet hates Jews) My grandfather and many of the people that live on my street where in WW2, saw what happened to the Jews in those camps.  At least General Eisenhower had the intelligence to make sure that as many photos could be taken as possible.  He even stated, "Get it all on record now - get the films - get the witnesses - because somewhere down the road of history some bastard will get up and say this never happened."  (edit - little side note - at the University of Ottawa, Ann Coutier was threatened because she talked negatively towards Muslims - which in itself isn't right, but still - when people talk about how the the Holocaust didn't happen, I don't see anyone threatening the life of the speaker)

 

Guess this topped it off for me (been a long day) but I was thinking about this as early as 6am this morning as I was driving to work.  On the radio they were interviewing an IMAM (Muslim priest) who will be at the Mosque they are building at the 9/11 site.  He was talking about how great it was, and how we all need to be more understanding of the Muslim culture, that how racist we are in North America - and how Sharia Law should be made law here.  You could almost see the FUCKING SMIRK on his face.  At this point I had to play some Def Leopard to calm me down, I was yelling at the radio (wouldn't that make a site to see...LOL)

Muslims I talk to always say how peaceful Islam is, how it is about understanding each other.  What a load of shit I say - look at all the fuss about "Draw Mohammad Day" - Pakistan is banning sites that talk about it - opps, perhaps I just screwed EBW out of their Pakistan viewship  -  but who gives a rat's ass about Pakistan anyway, what do they give us except for telemarketters, taxi drivers and side convience store owners.

Muslims seem to be of the majority of people who come over to North America and bitch and moan about how bad we are to them.  THEN WHY THE FUCK COME OVER HERE?  By all means, stay in the middle east - or whatever country they come from.  Wonder what will happen to them if they open their big mouths about how to run the country over there - oh ya, they will get their throats cut.

You want to be Muslim - that is fine, you want to practice your religion, that is fine as well.  But you must adapt somewhat to our way of life, not expecting us to bend over backwards to meet your way of life.

The FCC has given Hollywood permission to activate the "Selective Output Control" technologies in your set-top box. These are hidden flags that allow the MPAA to deactivate parts of your home theater depending on what you're watching. And it sucks. As Dan Gillmor notes, "Fans of old TV science fiction will remember the Outer Limits. Given Hollywood's victory today at the FCC -- they'll be able to reach over the lines and disable functions on your TV -- the intro to the show takes on modern relevance."

The FCC says that they're doing this because they believe that if they do so, the MPAA will start releasing first-run movies (the ones that are still in theaters) for TV. They say that Hollywood won't make these movies available unless they get Selectable Output Control because SOC will stop piracy.

This is ridiculous.

First, it's ridiculous because this can't ever stop piracy or get first-run movies into your living room. Even with SOC, the studios are not going to release high-value movies that are still in theatrical distribution for viewing in your house, where you could set up a tripod and high-quality camera (along with ideal lighting) in order to make your own camcordered copy and put it online.

Now, the FCC could have solved this by saying that only movies that are in their first theatrical release run can have SOC turned on, but they didn't, because they knew that the MPAA was lying through its teeth about using SOC to enable the "new business model" of showing you first run movies in your home.

Second, it's ridiculous because it's possible in the first place. The FCC (and the candy-ass consumer electronics companies) allowed for Selectable Output Control to be inserted into your devices even though they claimed all along that they would never allow it to be used. Read your Chekhov, people: the gun on the mantelpiece in act one will go off in act three. Allowing the MPAA to get SOC in your set-top box but "never planning on using it" is like buying a freezer full of chocolate ice-cream and never planning on eating it.

If the CE companies and FCC wanted to prevent SOC from being used, the best way of doing that would be to not include it in devices in the first place.

Finally, this is ridiculous because of what it's really for: ensuring that Hollywood gets control of all the features in your home's devices and computers. Here's how that works:

  • SOC only works with DRM-crippled outputs, like those locked with HDCP, DTLA, etc.
  • Now that some content will have SOC on it, every manufacturer will race to add SOC (and hence HDCP and DTLA and so on) to their devices
  • The committees that run DTLA and HDCP and other DRM cartels are absolutely in thrall to the MPAA. When I've attended DRM committee meetings, I've watched the MPAA reps tie the consumer electronics guys in knots, playing them off against each other, bullying them, dirty tricking them
  • Putting DTLA or HDCP in your devices isn't simple: in order to do so, you have to comply with an enormous about of restrictions that the MPAA dreams up and crams into the license agreements (much of these agreements are secret, and not available for regulators or consumer to inspect)
  • Ergo: now that the FCC has allowed SOC in devices, all devices will have SOC, and since SOC comes with DRM, and since the studios control DRM licensing, and since they shove all kinds of restrictive crap into DRM licenses, the FCC has essentially just guaranteed that the future of all media will be controlled by Hollywood, to our eternal torment and detriment

Now here's the really scary part:

I'm not just talking about TVs and set-top boxes here. This stuff is targetted squarely at operating system vendors. Both Apple and Microsoft have enthusiastically signed onto adding DRM to their OSes in order to comply with HDCP, DTLA and other "device-based" DRMs.

In the PC world, compliance with DTLA and HDCP rules isn't just about what features the OS can have, but what features the video cards, hard-drives, network interfaces, motherboards and drivers can have.

So the FCC has just handed the keys to specify drivers and components for general purpose PCs to the thrashing dinosaurs of Hollywood. Because even your cheapo netbook or homebuilt Linux box relies on components that are manufactured for the gigantic mainstream PC and laptop markets.

Now that the mainstream component market has a new de-facto regulator at the MPAA, watch for all of those components to come with restrictions built in.

The Obama White House has done some good, but its administrative branch is stuffed with Hollywood lawyers who are Democratic Party stalwarts. The FCC has some great tech people on this, but the commissioners' staffers who wrote this memo are either the most credulous yokels that ever met an MPAA lobbyist, or they're in the pockets of Big Content.

I have been to the police and embassy here, but they aren't helping issues, I have limited means of getting out of here,  we canceled our cards already and made a police report, I wont get a new card number till I get back home! Well, I was a bit bored this afternoon, so I went to go see the new 3D movie - Clash of the Titans (wasn't going to go see that 3D Dragon movie - well, perhaps I should have)

 

First off, the goddamn greedy producer(s?) were cheap with the 3D - only a few scenes looked hafl decent, most were dark, fuzzy and horrible images (don't get me started with the Hade's demons - was getting dizzy trying to watch that)  But I will give credit to the kraken and the medusa, now they were awesome.

Now, I know this is an action film, but damn, give the characters some development - but you hardly get any (even with Perseus, the main lead)  Sorry, but if you don't feel anything towards the characters, you don't give a shit if they live or die (which they all do in the battle with the medusa - opps, should I have told you spoiler?  Not really, since all the characters around Perseus are cannon fodder)

I know many of you ebw blog viewers have zero interest in Greek mythos, but WTF - why have a djinn - where in the fuck are they in Greek mythology (but I am thinking this shit was thrown in here to give people a taste for the upcoming Prince of Persia movie)

At best this is a B-action movie with a shitload of money thrown at it.  I for one hope it flops at the box office, we don't need more garbage like this being made.

 

So ya, my recommendation - don't bother going to see it at the theatre (and if you do, see it in 2D - unless you like being disoriented)
