Its not actually the marriage part that I have trouble with. Its the legal ramafications of marriage. When a couple gets married they are legally saying to the courts that any property they own, or will own as married belongs to them in equal shares. From the money they take in working jobs to the property they buy as married. Now as we all know more than half of all marriages are destined to fail. If a marriage does fail and a divorce ensues, as a man, half of everything I own is given to the woman. Even if she did not work for or contribute any money to buy that property. Say I started my own company and my wife doesnt need to work because I make enough money for the both of us. She contributed nothing to the company yet takes away half of my ownership. Is what America has truly a democracy? Is the choice between Democrats and Republicans really the broad choice we deserve? The answer, and hard truth to these questions are actually no. Yes we live in a country that through wars and revolutions have realized the only way a country can function in a healthy way is to give everyone rights and freedoms. And one of those rights and freedoms is to chose the political party you believe best represents the majorty of the people and their interests. This seems like a simple thing to do right? Well, actually it is but because of ignorance it makes it a very difficult thing to do.  People know which political party they belong to without having to be asked.
