The basic land rover design (for their model now called a defender) has changed little since they started making them in the 1940's. I think thats part of the attraction of the vehicle. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Of all the land rover built since their first creation, 75% are still on the road. Impressive. Try and find a used one, they are hard to find, Once they are bought people rarely sell them.
