Metal Gear Survive art.

On the surface Metal Gear Survive is a simple game about preventing enemies from taking over your base. But with increasing difficulty and a lot of mechanics to take into consideration, it doesn't take long for it to feel overwhelming.

But with some of our tips, making it through your journey shouldn't be so bad. Check out these tips and tricks below to learn from our time playing the game.

You can salvage the large metal derelicts around your base for a quick stipend of metal resources, if you don't they double as preplaced obstacles for wanderers.

To salvage the above you need to be able to start building your base, then go to the second to last tab in construction menu and hover over the objects.

If you place down a building object and dont want it there, DONT Disassemble, just move it, you lose out on roughly 80% of the resources by disassembly.

Resource areas respawn after a few ingame-days/on save-quit-return, so if you find a good spot for resources remember where it is with a stamp and come back after a few hours to see if it respawned.

You can use placed obstacles to bypass some areas, use towers to get over fences/rockwalls (start thinking outside the box).

Don't splurge on bullets/firearms early on, the materials used for them are better allocated to other projects/weapons and you will make due with a well placed iron fence and a spear.

When cooking meals for the first time (grilling them) only do one cycle as that will unlock other recipes for that ingredient item (IE Sheep meat grilled unlocks Sheep meat soup).

Some recipes have different batch size options, make sure to read the tooltips when making things, (IE instead of 3 bullets a run you can do 9-30 with scaling resource cost).

Note what weapons you use the most and what they cost to repair. Make sure to have stockpile those resources (IE Survival Bow takes Wood and Wire, Normal Arrows take Iron and Wood, Heavy Arrows take Steel and Aluminum etc).

Don't worry about having 100% stats all the time, also don't worry about making clean water right away, you have plenty of meds from the start to take care of any negative effects and even then the % chance isn't very high for them.

There are armor upgrades you can put on chest rigs that increase how much ammo or how much weight you can carry.

Use logic when collecting materials from tables/barrels/crates, an axe or a club works faster than a spear in disassembly.

If you enter an area that's too dark use a flashlight, should be an early reward

Make sure to accept the daily and weekly orders from Virgil at the main base when you first start. You get good stipend rewards

Revival pills are craftable, but still try not to die, they require an absurd set of crafting mats.

Most wanderers Cannot Climb up walls or buildings, take the high ground when possible.

Fire spreads, remember that.

Remember that carry weight affects stamina usage. Take appropriate gear for expeditions.

Walk more, run less. Your hunger and thirst meters will thank you.

sprint at animals and punch them to knock them out. Then Fulton extract them. You’ll save weight and get extra resources. Plus, no more chasing with the spear!

Backstab wanderers and Fulton their dead bodies. You have about 5 seconds to extract them or the option goes away, but you will receive 1.5x the Kuban for a wormhole than by cutting out the energy. This is faster as well.

Have a friend help you in co-op. A half decent team can S-rank by the middle of round 2 and extract for a TON of Kuban, resources, and blueprints.

Regarding co-op, the speed boost on the drill is now permanent until the round ends or the drill takes damage.

Get the quick hands skill early. It will save a TON of time when cutting up animals, wanderers, and looting resources.

Don’t forget to sleep every once in a while. You can become fatigued which slows your movement speed and reduces your stamina regen.

USE STAMPS. USE STAMPS. You can mark where animals and plants spawn, as well as water holes, resource containers, etc. you no longer have the Intel team from phantom pain so you have to be your own Intel team.

Do side missions, they often lead to large caches of Kuban, animals, and other useful resources.

Save bottles for water, you can use Kuban crystals for lures.

Speaking about those crystal lures, you can actually knock out birds with them to harvest for meat and resources.

Move quickly through the story until you unlock the campfire with a boiling pot. It will help you turn dirty water into clean water!

Good luck out there.
