A.I. startup Eight Sleep has some big dreams in terms of revolutionizing the way we sleep. The company’s CEO, Matteo Franceschetti, announced on X that Eight Sleep had recently raised $100 million to “build the A.I. that finally fixes sleep,” claiming, “For decades, sleep has been passive. You lie down, close your eyes, and hope for the best. We’re changing that.”

Eight Sleep's product is a $3,000 mattress cover that comes with its own A.I. “Sleep Agent.” The mattress covers are fitted with speakers, fans, heating pads and sensors that track your every sleeping move, while the A.I. sleep agent runs thousands of nightly simulations to “optimize” your night’s rest.

You’re probably wondering, who is dumb and rich enough to fall for such a crock?

Well, the 11-year-old start-up is making a push to find new consumers, as its loyal users, which include tech-billionaires Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, can only buy so many mattress covers. Eight Sleep co-founder Alexandra Zatarain told The Wall Street Journal that while tech billionaires and millionaires will still be their core market, they hope to convert “dancers and teachers” into loyal customers as well.

And if they can’t afford three grand for an A.I.-powered bed sheet? Don’t worry, the company also sells $59 sleep supplements
