Amazon Is Selling AI Knock-Offs of Best Sellers

This can’t be legal.

Amazon is notorious for selling slop. Even before the term “slop” was used to describe AI-generated content, the company had already made billions selling shabby goods of all kinds. From flimsy nonstick pans to crappy shirts and other gadgets, Amazon is not a brand that is synonymous with “quality.”

Last month, I wrote about how, in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death, Amazon book-sellers rushed to publish AI-generated titles about his life and assassination. Well, it appears the Amazon book slop isn’t just targeting slain influencers, it’s ripping off best-selling authors.

One of those authors is Seth Harp, whose new book The Fort Bragg Cartel: Drug Trafficking and Murder in the Special Forces has already been imitated. According to Harp, a friend of his sent him a photo of what they thought was his book. The counterfeit featured the same cover art and nearly identical title, but listed a different author: someone named James Benson.

A quick search on Amazon for “Fort Bragg Cartel” yields dozens of results for books, many of which appear to be AI-generated. One of the fakes even copies Harp’s book title word-for-word and uses a similar cover image, only it’s credited to someone named Shaun Herald, who lists one other book titled Secrets of Entrepreneurs Under 40 Exposed!

One review of the book reads, “I regret this purchase because it is not the real book by Seth Harp.”

Thanks, Amazon, great stuff!
