Betting Markets Think They Know When the Government Shutdown Will End

As America waits for the government to get back to work, Kalshi, the self-proclaimed “Prediction Market for Trading the Future,” has opened bets for when the government may reopen. And so far, predictions say the shutdown will last another 24 days, making it the second-longest government shutdown in history behind 2018’s shutdown.
As of now, 58 percent of bets are for the shutdown to last at least 28 days, with 47 percent of bets estimating a shutdown of at least 24 days. In total, $3,632,466 bets have been placed.

It’s worth noting that Polymarket, another crypto prediction market, was correct in its prediction that Trump would win the 2024 Presidential election, even as polls showed Kamala Harris had gained ground on Trump in the weeks leading up to the election.
