Kevin Ford has been working at Burger King for 27 years without missing a single shift. He works as a cook and a cashier at the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, and recently went viral after posting a video of himself opening an unexceptional gift the company gave him for his almost 30-year anniversary.
HMS Host, the food service company for restaurants like Burger King, Starbucks, and Cinnabon said in a statement about Ford's 27 years at the restaurant, "This recognition of Mr. Ford by another employee captures the essence of our culture of appreciation, caring and inclusion and reflects the best of our company - our people. Mr. Ford is a valued associate and member of an honored group of employees that have worked for us for many years."
However, many people who responded to Ford's video online had other things to say.
One user said, "Did they really give Kevin Ford a bag of candy after 27 years of not missing a day of work?
Did @BurgerKing really give Kevin Ford a bag of candy after 27 years of not missing a day of work? S/O to the people online for recognizing him better than his own employer did for his loyalty and hard work. pic.twitter.com/8s9T9eytKu— JRJ2TECH | Social Media Creator (@jrj2tech) June 26, 2022
Another user pointed out that Burger King generates around 1.8 billion dollars a year.
Ford's daughter, Seryna Ford, created a GoFundMe on June 20th asking for only $200 to fund a trip so Ford could travel to see his grandchildren. She posted the video he made of the gift and wrote in the description, "The man in that video is my father. He has worked at his job for 27 years and yes, he has never missed a day of work."
Seryna's post reached over 8,700 people and raised upwards of $274,000. Ford said he plans to use the money to visit his family and buy himself a new car.
One of the donators was David Spade who donated $5,000 with the message "Keep up the good work."
