Surfers in California are facing a new adversary outside of their usual nemeses (weak waves, having a job, etc.). Instead, this enemy is the humble otter — which keeps attacking them and stealing their boards.

According to ABC 7, a surfer at Steamer Lane said she was out surfing when an otter swam up and bit her foot. After rolling off to figure out what happened, the otter got on top of her board and refused to get off.

Thankfully, another surfer came to assist her, and after 20 minutes, she was able to get her board back.

So, surfers in California take note: be on the lookout for otters who are trying to ride!
