Leaked Chats Reveal Tyler Robinson Was Not Radicalized On Discord

While Robinson was clearly radicalized against Charlie Kirk and his message, that radicalization did not take place on Discord.

According to leaked Discord messages obtained by journalist Ken Klippenstein, Tyler Robinson apologized for killing Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.

Klippenstein’s reporting paints a very different picture of Robinson than what’s appeared in the mainstream media thus far and seems to indicate that Robinson was neither a member of antifa as the right has claimed, nor was he a self-professed “Groyper” as many on the left have speculated.

According to a childhood friend of Robinson, and a member of the aforementioned Discord chat, Robinson was “generally apolitical for the most part.” The friend, who spoke to Klippenstein anonymously over fear of attacks, said Robinson “never really talked politics, which is why it’s so frustrating.”

Judging by the leaked Discord messages released in Klippenstein’s reporting, these statements appear to be true. In total, Robinson made two references to either Donald Trump or Joe Biden in the Discord server, and neither of those messages was political.

The Discord server where Robinson apologized to his friends after shooting Kirk was not a breeding ground for political violence, but a normal Discord chat filled with a group of friends sharing memes, games and weather reports.

In the days following Kirk’s death, members of the Discord offered their condolences and prayers for Kirk, with one member saying, “[Kirk] didn’t deserve to go out like that.” Another person even posted a prayer message that reads: “Regardless of the horrible actions that took place, we must take this moment to remember that God is a living and loving God who loves all his. While Charlie Kirk’s politics were not acceptable to some, l ask that we all say a prayer for him and his family during these confusing times.”

Per the anonymous childhood friend, Robinson wasn’t a loner and was well-liked by his peers. He enjoyed camping, video games, fishing and guns. The friend also confirmed that Robinson was dating a trans woman, noting, “Obviously, he’s okay with gay and trans people having a right to exist, but also believes in the Second Amendment.”

While Klippenstein’s reporting says nothing of Robinson’s motive, it does paint a picture of who he was and what exactly was going down in that Discord chat: a group of Gen Zers sharing memes and posting about video games.
