China is launching a program to remove all “joykills” from the internet. According to the BBC, the plan is aimed at reversing the growing trend of malaise that can be found online. However, the despondency felt by young people across the globe, isn’t a byproduct of what they’re seeing online, it’s their reaction to what they’re experiencing in the real world.
China, which is currently experiencing multiple crises, including high youth unemployment, overcrowded colleges and a slumping real estate market, wants to “rectify negative emotions” online and create a “rational online environment.”
