Chubby Checker Begged to Get Into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for 25 Years. Once He Got Inducted, He Skipped the Ceremony

Honestly, kind of a baller move.

For 25 years, Chubby Checker has been putting forward his (very reasonable) case to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. For example, at the 2014 Songwriters Hall of Fame gala, he told the Associated Press: “I don’t want to get in there when I’m 85 years old. I’ll tell them to drop dead, so you better do it quick while I’m still smiling!”

Hey, his argument makes sense — you’re telling me the man behind “The Twist” isn’t already in there? Hurry up and induct him!

Well, it seems the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has finally listened to Checker and invited him to be inducted into their semi-hallowed halls. The problem? Checker is busy the night they’re inducting him, so he’s no-showing.

“The Rock Hall says, ‘We want you to come here this day and be here,’” Checker recalled in an interview. “We said, ‘We’re not coming.’ ‘You’re what?!’ I said, ‘We’re not coming. We have a gig.’ ‘Well, forget about your gig.’ You never forget about gigs.”

That’s right — his reason for skipping his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction is that he’s too busy rocking and rolling to make an appearance.

Honestly? Respect.
