Credit Where Credit Is Due: AI Is Actually Helping Scientists Cure Cancer
Ugh, fine, it can do *some* good.

We’ve long-discussed how most uses of AI range from pointless to downright dangerous. But every once in a while, we’ve got to tip our hats to those who are using AI well — specifically, scientists who are using the technology to work toward curing cancer.
Recently, researchers with Google’s Gemma unveiled an AI collaboration with Yale University aimed at turning “cold” tumors (the kind your immune system ignores) into “hot” ones — the kind your body can actually recognize and attack.
They fed the AI all the information they had on the process, and it began spitting out potential methods for making it happen. While most were known to the researchers, between 10 and 30 percent of them were not — and after testing some of these new methods out, some of them actually worked.
This breakthrough is exciting not just for its potential to treat disease, but because it opens the door to run simulations for treatments before actually doing physical tests.
Seems like a better way to use the technology than creating AI SpongeBob videos!
