Crypto-Bros Have Started Betting Markets for Dares, and It Won’t End Well

They did this on 'Black Mirror.'

There’s a new crypto-backed betting market in town. It’s not like Polymarket or Kalshi, where people bet on who the next mayor of NYC will be or how long Trump and Xi will shake hands. It’s far dumber and possibly much more dangerous. Meet the Dare Market, a website where people can wager and participate in open “dares.”

On Dare’s homepage you’ll find a number of open “dares” that people can submit entries for, including things like “shave a line down the middle of your head,” “call your ex like nothing happened” and “scream WTF while in an awkward public space.”

To participate, people submit videos of themselves completing the dares, and others vote on which submission they liked best, with the winner receiving all the payments. Each dare has a specific set of rules participants must follow to be considered. For example, submissions for “screaming WTF in public” require people to shout “at the top of your lungs for at least 10 seconds.”
