Everyone knows the few items at the Dollar Tree actually cost one dollar. In 2021, the company changed its base price for items from $1 to $1.25 as a way to help the business stay afloat and continue to offer reasonable prices to its customers.
Well, keen Dollar Tree shoppers have noticed the store is beginning to raise prices again. This time, upping its base $1.25 price to $1.50, and people aren’t happy about it.
Dollar Tree CEO Michael Creedon defended the company’s decision to raise its prices, arguing, “It broadens our value proposition and relevance to our customers, allows us to compete more effectively, helps drive cost leverage, and sets the business up for long-term success.”

Dollar Tree reported $4.7 billion in net sales this year, up 9% from last year. Creedon boasted that 80% of Dollar Tree’s items are still listed below $2.
Well, if that’s true, I think it’s time for a name change.
