Buffalo snowstorm i90 crash

Snowstorms are ravaging the Northeast right now. Winter is here.

Among the cities dealing with serious problems of snowfall and bitter cold is Buffalo. While not necessarily a city unfamiliar with extreme conditions during the winter, this week is something made for highlight reels and a cup of hot cocoa.

Quite a few car accidents have been reported as cars have lost control on the road. The worst among them is a huge car pile-up on I-90 East, one of the largest freeways in the state of New York.

Here's what it looks like:

Over 80 vehicles were directly affected by the crippling back-up, and 22 were involved in a crash that sent semi trucks and SUVs smashing into one another.

One person is confirmed dead, with several others injured. Ambulances have had trouble navigating to the site given the number of cars stopped on the freeway, making matters worse.

Dozens of drivers have ditched their cars to seek warm shelter.
