Elon Musk is already the richest man in the world, and he will eventually become the richest man ever. According to CBS News, Tesla’s Board of Directors wants to give Musk 423 million shares of stock, currently valued at $143 billion. And if all goes well for the King of Memes, in a decade, those shares could be worth nearly a trillion dollars.
There are two ways to read Tesla’s proposed pay package for Musk. Either he’s worth the money and has earned it, or, and what’s more likely, it’s a way to incentivise him to prioritize Tesla’s growth.

Musk, who is famously always online posting memes on X and ogling at his A.I. chatbots — that is, when he isn’t in a K-hole — has an attention bottleneck problem, something Tesla is well aware of.
So really, the trillion-dollar deal isn’t a sign of good faith in the Tesla CEO, but rather the only way they can get him to log off.
